Getting around on your phone
How the BytePhase phone app is laid out: the bottom bar for your job in the shop, the More menu, the + button, search, scan and alerts.
mobile navigation, bottom bar, tab bar, footer, more menu, menu, plus button, quick create, add button, scan, barcode, QR, search, notifications, android app, iphone app, where is, can't find, tablet, where is the menu, find a screen, phone menu, bottom buttons, add new, alerts, bell, layoutOn a phone, the screens you use most sit in a bottom bar. Which ones you get depends on your role, for example Technician or Reception. Everything else is in the More menu.
The + button in the middle of the bar adds new things, like a job or a customer. The top of the More screen has search, scan and your alerts.
It works the same in the Android app, the iPhone app and in your phone’s browser. The Phone steps in this help center start from the places on this page.
The bottom bar
Section titled “The bottom bar”The bottom bar always has five spots:
tab · tab · + · tab · More
- The three tabs depend on your role. See the table below.
- + adds new things. See The + button.
- More opens a menu with everything else you can use. See The More menu.
The tab for the screen you’re on is highlighted.
Bottom bar for each role
Section titled “Bottom bar for each role”| Role | Bottom bar | First screen you see |
|---|---|---|
| Admin | Dashboard · Jobs · + · Customers · More | Dashboard |
| Technician | Assigned · Jobs · + · Customers · More | Jobs |
| Reception | Jobs · Customers · + · Scan code · More | Jobs |
| Delivery | Route · Jobs · + · Customers · More | Route (your pickups and drops for the day) |
| Account | Billing · Expenses · + · Sales · More | Invoices |
| Marketing | Leads · Customers · + · Scan code · More | Leads |
| Sale | Leads · Quotations · + · Sales · More | Leads |
| Customer (Dealer, End User, Corporate User) | Home · Repairs · + · Quotes · More | Home |
| Any other role | Jobs · Scan code · + · Customers · More | Jobs |
When you can’t use a tab. A tab is left out if its feature isn’t in your plan, or is turned off. It is also left out if your shop owner hasn’t let you use it. The bar fills the gap with Scan code, then Help.
For example, outside India Expenses starts turned off. So an Account user sees Billing · Sales · + · Scan code · More, until an admin turns Expenses on.
Not seeing the first screen for your role? Your shop owner hasn’t let you use it yet. BytePhase opens Jobs instead.
The + button
Section titled “The + button”The round button in the middle of the bar does different things for different people:
- Staff: it opens Create. This is a list of everything you can add: Job, Customer, Sale, Quotation, Task, Expense, Lead, Inventory, Pickup/Drop, Purchase, AMC and Rental. You only see what your plan, your features and your shop owner allow. Items not in your plan show a padlock.
- Tap Job to open the new job form. If your shop uses more than one type of job, you first choose one under Select job type: Repair job, Recovery job or Bulk repair job.
- Staff who can’t add anything: the button becomes a Scan button.
- Customers: it opens a panel with two choices. Request pickup/drop shows when your shop offers self check-in. Open a document scans the QR code on an invoice, job sheet or quotation.
The More menu
Section titled “The More menu”Tap More to see every other screen you can open. The groups are the same for everyone. Each row has a short note under its name. Anything already in your bottom bar is not shown again here.
| Group | Staff see | Customers see |
|---|---|---|
| Daily work | Assigned to me · Jobs · Outsourced jobs · Self check-in · Tasks · Calendar · Pickups & drops | Self check-in · Pickups & drops |
| Sales | Sales · Quotations · Billing · Purchases | Sales |
| Customers | Customers · Leads | — |
| Stock & assets | Inventory · Part suppliers · Rentals · AMC · Backup drives | AMC · Rentals |
| Team & money | Employees · Expenses · Commission · Reports | — |
| System | Settings · Business settings · Subscription · Integrations · White label · Help | — |
| More | More features (shops outside India, Basic plan and above) | — |
What you see in the list:
- An item not in your plan shows a padlock. It comes after the items you can open. Tap it to see an offer to upgrade.
- An item that is turned off on the Features page is not shown. Nor is one your shop owner hasn’t let you use.
- Backup drives only shows if your shop offers data recovery.
- Tap a row to open that screen. Some screens have tabs at the top for different lists. For example, Billing has invoices, payments, collect payments and accounting. AMC has contracts, services, complaints and an overview.
So a Phone step in this help center might say: “Tap More, then under Stock & assets tap Part suppliers”.
The top of the screen
Section titled “The top of the screen”On the More screen and the Dashboard, the top of the screen has three rows:
- Your shop’s logo is on the left. On Enterprise, tap it to switch branch. On the right you’ll find:
- BytePhase Assistant (headset icon, staff only)
- Notifications (the bell, with the number of unread alerts)
- your profile picture. It opens your profile menu: profile, security, theme, plan, help and sign out.
- The business you’re working in (staff only). Tap it to switch business. See Your account, businesses and branches.
- The search bar, which says “Search jobs, leads, and customers by phone, email, and more…”. Tap it to search all your records. The Scan code button at its right end opens the camera scanner.
On every other screen, the top shows a back arrow, the screen name, a small label with the current business, and buttons for that screen.
Scan code opens the camera. You’ll find it in the search bar, or as a tab in the bottom bar. Point the camera at:
- the QR code printed on a job sheet, quotation, invoice, sale, purchase, delivery challan, diagnosis report, AMC contract or AMC service receipt. This opens that record.
- a barcode on a device, part or job. This finds it.
Want to scan a serial or IMEI number (the phone’s ID number) into a form? Use the scan button next to that box instead. See Scan a serial or IMEI number.
Notifications
Section titled “Notifications”Tap the bell to open Notifications. It is a full-screen list of your alerts, for example jobs given to you. In the apps, BytePhase can also send alerts to your phone, if you allow it.
Tablets
Section titled “Tablets”The layout depends on the screen size, not the device:
- Phones, and phones turned sideways, get the phone layout on this page.
- Screens 768 to 1199 pixels wide (and at least 600 tall), like most tablets, get the computer layout. The left menu shrinks to small icons. Tap the menu button to open it fully. Follow the Desktop steps in help articles.
- Screens 1200 pixels and wider get the full computer layout.
