Add each tax rate you charge once. After that you pick it on a part, a service or a bill line, and BytePhase works out the tax for you.

  • Have your rates ready, for example GST 18%, and how it splits, for example CGST 9% and SGST 9%.
  • In India, the business picked in the switcher must be GST registered. If it isn’t, Tax settings doesn’t appear. See Registered for GST or tax, or not registered.
  • Don’t see the + button? Ask your shop owner to let you change settings (Business Settings › Change settings).
  1. Go to Settings › Payment & tax › Tax settings. On a phone, tap More › System › Settings first.

You see the list of your taxes with Tax name, Tax rate (%) and Sub classes.

    Phone
  2. At the top right of the list, click + (Add tax).

    The Create tax window opens.

  3. Type a Tax name, for example “GST 18%”, and the Tax rate, for example 18.

  4. If the tax is split into parts, click Add sub-class for each part. Type the Sub class name and its Tax rate, for example CGST 9 and SGST 9.

The parts must add up to the full rate. If they don’t, you see “Sub-class rates must add up to the tax rate”.

    Desktop
  5. Click Save.

The tax appears in the list. You can now pick it on parts, services and bills.

  • Shared by all your businesses. You add each rate once, and every business can use it. Whether a business may charge tax is set per business.
  • Change a rate: click the pencil next to it. Bills you’ve already made keep the tax they were saved with.
  • No delete button. You can change a tax, but you can’t remove it from the list.
  • Guided tour. On a computer, the Set up tax rates tour walks you through these steps.
