My receipt printer won't print from my phone
BytePhase makes a PDF on your phone instead of connecting to the printer. Here's how to get the receipt printed.
thermal, receipt printer, 80mm, 58mm, bluetooth printer, POS printer, print from phone, print from mobile, android print, iPhone print, receipt, ESC/POS, print not working, sticker printer, label printer, receipt not printing, printer not found, can't connect printer, print bill from phone, small printer, receipt cut offWhat you see: you tap Print › Thermal on your phone and nothing comes out of your receipt printer. Or BytePhase doesn’t find your Bluetooth printer.
What happens when you print on a phone
Section titled “What happens when you print on a phone”When you tap Print on a document and pick Thermal, BytePhase makes a PDF the size of a receipt:
- In the Android or iPhone app: the PDF opens in your phone’s PDF viewer. On an iPhone, the share menu may open instead. Print from there.
- In a phone browser: the PDF opens in a new tab with the browser’s print option. If nothing opens, your browser blocked the new window. Allow pop-ups for BytePhase and try again.
In the apps, the Print menu also has Download (save a copy of the PDF) and Share (send the PDF to another app).
Try these fixes
Section titled “Try these fixes”1. Add a print app for your printer
Section titled “1. Add a print app for your printer”A phone can only print a PDF to printers it knows. Most Bluetooth receipt printers aren’t known to your phone straight out of the box.
- Install the print app or print service from your printer’s maker. Any other app that can print PDFs to your printer also works.
- In BytePhase, tap Share, or the share button in the PDF viewer.
- Send the PDF to that print app.
2. Match the receipt width to your paper roll
Section titled “2. Match the receipt width to your paper roll”The PDF size comes from the paper size in your print settings. If it says 80 mm and your printer uses 58 mm rolls, the receipt is cut off or shrunk.
- On a computer or phone, open Settings › Documents & printing › Print settings.
- Under Where it prints, choose Thermal receipt.
- Set Paper size to your roll width (58 mm or 80 mm) and save.
Each of your businesses has its own paper size.
3. Use the A4 copy when there’s no Thermal option
Section titled “3. Use the A4 copy when there’s no Thermal option”Not every document has a receipt layout. If it doesn’t, Thermal isn’t in its Print menu.
- Use Print › Document for an A4 copy.
- Or Share the PDF.
