Use this when you want to charge a customer less. For example, 10% off a screen replacement, or 50 off the whole bill for a regular customer.

You can give a discount in two places:

  • On one item. Type it on the item’s row.
  • On the whole bill. Use Add bill discount in the totals under the items.

Both work the same way on jobs, sales and quotations.

  • Ask your shop owner to let you edit the bill: Sales — Create & edit, Quotations — Create & edit or Jobs — Create & edit.
  • Add the items first. A discount is worked out from the items on the bill.
  1. Open the sale, quotation or job in edit mode, so the item rows can be changed.

  2. On the item’s row, find the Discount column. It has two boxes: an amount and a %.

  3. Type the amount, or type the percentage. The other box fills in by itself.

The discount comes off the item’s price × quantity, before tax. The row total changes as you type.

  4. Save the bill as usual.

  1. Open the bill in edit mode and look at the totals under the items.

    • Sale or quotation: add or edit it as usual.
    • Job, on a computer: open the job and click Edit. The totals are under the services and parts.
    • Job, on a phone: open the job, tap ⋮, then Parts & services. The totals are at the bottom.
  2. Click Add bill discount.

  3. If your business is registered for GST or tax, choose After tax or Before tax. See the table below.

  4. Type a percentage in the % box, or an amount in the other box. The other box fills in by itself.

The totals show a Bill discount line, with the percentage in brackets, for example “Bill discount (10%)”. Grand total goes down.

    Desktop
  5. Save the bill. On a job, the bill discount saves by itself as you type.

To take the discount off again, click the × (Remove) next to Bill discount.

Choice What it does Example: items 1,000 + 18% tax (180) = 1,180, discount 100
After tax (the usual choice) Takes the discount off the total. The tax stays the same. Tax 180, total 1,080
Before tax Takes the discount off the item amount first. The tax is worked out again on the lower amount. Items 900, tax 162, total 1,062

If your business isn’t registered for GST (in India), you don’t see this choice and the discount comes off the total.

Percentage or amount: which one stays fixed

Section titled “Percentage or amount: which one stays fixed”

You type one box, and BytePhase works out the other. The box you typed is the one that stays fixed when the bill changes:

  • You typed a percentage, for example 10%. If you add another item, the amount goes up so it’s still 10%.
  • You typed an amount, for example 100. If you add another item, the amount stays 100 and the percentage changes.

A bill discount can’t be more than 100%, or more than the bill. An item discount that’s more than the item’s price × quantity shows the box in red.

  • Round off comes last. If Round off is on, the total is rounded after the discount, so it rounds what the customer actually pays. See Round bill totals.
  • Job invoices copy the job’s discount. Set the bill discount on the job before you make the invoice. The invoice screen doesn’t change it, and Sync with job updates the items but keeps the discount the invoice already has.
  • Quotation to sale. When you turn a quotation into a sale, the bill discount is copied too. See Turn a quotation into a sale.
  • On the printout. The discount prints in the totals. You can hide it, or the item Discount column, in Print settings. See Print settings.
