Before you start
Section titled “Before you start”- Don’t see the barcode icon? Ask your shop owner to let you add and edit jobs.
- The first time you scan, BytePhase asks to use your camera. Allow it, or scanning won’t start.
- Make sure the barcode is clean and in good light. Most phone boxes and labels show the IMEI as a barcode.
-
Open the create job form (Create › Job). Or open a job and click Edit.
-
In Serial / IMEI number, click the barcode icon at the right of the box.
Desktop -
If your browser asks to use the camera, click Allow.
-
In the Scan QR/barcode window, hold the barcode up to your webcam, inside the square.
When the code is read, the window closes and the number appears in Serial / IMEI number.
New to the phone app? See Getting around on your phone.
-
In the bottom bar, tap +, then Job. To add the number to a job you already have, open it from Jobs and tap Edit.
-
In Serial / IMEI number, tap the barcode icon at the right of the box.
-
The first time, BytePhase explains why it needs the camera. Continue from that screen, then tap Allow when your phone asks.
-
Point the camera at the barcode.
The phone vibrates when it reads the code. The camera closes and the number appears in Serial / IMEI number.
Good to know
Section titled “Good to know”- Already in the shop? If an open job has the same number, you see This serial number already has an open job: under the box, with a link to that job. You can still save.
- What scanning looks like: in the Android and iPhone apps, the phone’s own scanner opens. On Android, the very first scan may show Preparing scanner… while it downloads. In a browser on a computer or phone, a Scan QR/barcode window opens; if you see a torch button, use it in low light.
- What it can read: QR codes and the common barcodes on boxes and labels, for example Code 128, EAN-13, UPC-A, Data Matrix and PDF417. A USB barcode scanner that types like a keyboard also works: click in Serial / IMEI number and scan.
- Scan code is something else. Scan code at the top of the phone app opens a job from the QR code on its job sheet. It doesn’t look up serial or IMEI numbers. The same barcode icon also appears on bulk repair jobs, the customer self check-in form and the repair tracking page.
