Part categories group your parts so they’re easier to find, for example “Screens”, “Batteries” and “Charging ports”. Each category can have sub-categories, like “iPhone screens” under “Screens”.

All your businesses share one list of categories. A category you add in one business shows up in the others too.

  • Computer: Settings › Jobs & repairs › Part categories (under What you service). You can also click the gear (Settings) on the Inventory list and choose Part categories.
  • Phone: More › System › Settings › Jobs & repairs › Part categories.
  • While adding a part: next to Category and Sub-category, click + to add a new one without leaving the form.

To see the list, you need permission to view business settings. To add, change or delete categories, you need Business Settings — Change settings.

On screen What it means
Category name The name of the group, for example Screens. Each name can be used only once (“Category name already exists”).
Sub-category name A smaller group inside a category, for example iPhone screens. You add sub-categories from the part form, with + next to Sub-category. Pick the Category first.

When you add or edit a part, pick its Category, then its Sub-category. The sub-category list only shows the ones in the chosen category. Both are optional.

  • You can’t delete a category that parts use. You see “Can’t delete … it’s used in … parts.” This counts parts in all your businesses. Move those parts to another category first.
  • Categories are only for sorting and finding parts. They don’t change prices, tax or stock.
