Tracking stock by serial number
BytePhase counts stock by quantity only. It can't track each stock item by its own serial or IMEI number.
serial number, IMEI, serialized inventory, serial tracking, track each phone, IMEI stock, unique item, used phones stock, second hand phones, serial number stock, batch trackingTracking stock by serial number is not available in BytePhase.
Your inventory counts how many of each part you have, for example “10 × iPhone 13 Screen”. It can’t hold a list of the individual serial or IMEI numbers (the phone’s ID number) of the items on your shelf. So BytePhase can’t tell you which serial numbers are in stock, or stop you from selling the same serial number twice.
Where serial numbers do exist
Section titled “Where serial numbers do exist”- On a job. Every repair job has a Serial / IMEI number for the customer’s device. You can type it or scan it, and search your jobs by it. See Scan a serial or IMEI number. Bulk repair jobs and the customer self check-in form have it too.
- On backup drives, rental devices and AMC devices. Each has a serial number as a detail of that one device.
- On a part row in a job or sale. You can type a Serial number on the row as a note.
What you can do instead
Section titled “What you can do instead”Write the serial number on the part row each time you use or sell an item:
- On the job’s Services and parts tab (or a sale), add the part as usual.
- On a computer, click the arrow at the start of the row (More fields). On a phone, open the part and tap More details.
- Type the item’s number in Serial number and save.
The number is saved on that job or sale. It prints under the part name on A4 printouts, so your customer has it for warranty. It isn’t linked to your stock count, and BytePhase doesn’t check it for duplicates.
Good to know
Section titled “Good to know”- Stock still works by quantity. Using one part on a job takes one off the count, whatever serial number you type.
- Stock reports show quantities, not serial numbers.
