A job is one device a customer leaves with you for repair. For example, a customer brings in a phone with a cracked screen, and you create one job for it.

The job holds everything about that repair: whose device it is, what’s wrong, what you’ll do, what it costs and how far along it is.

These three words come up a lot. They all describe the same repair, seen in different ways.

Word What it is Who sees it
Job The repair record in BytePhase. You create it, give it to a technician, change its status, add services and parts, take payments and give the device back. You and your staff
Job sheet The document made from the job. It can be an A4 page, a thermal receipt or a sticker. You print it when the device comes in, or send it as a link. It always shows the job’s latest details. You and your customer
Repair tracking page The page your customer opens from the link in your message, or by looking up the job. They see the status, costs and comments, and can reply. Your customer

You may hear other names for a job: repair ticket, job card, service ticket or work order. In the app it’s always Job. If your customer has a customer login, they see the same job under Repairs.

When you open a job, its tabs show everything about the repair:

  • Overview: a summary, the status and who is working on it.
  • Details: the customer, the device, the serial or IMEI number (the phone’s ID number), accessories, the problem and the rest of the intake form.
  • Comments: messages your customer can see.
  • Private notes: notes only your staff can see.
  • Payments: the advance and any other payments.
  • Delivery: how and when the device went back to the customer.
  • Services and parts: the work and parts you charge for.

Some tabs only show when they’re needed. For example, staff see Pickup & drop, and recovery jobs have their own tabs.

  • Job number: each new job gets the next number in your job sheet number series. You see it at the top of the form, after Create job and a dash. Each of your businesses has its own number series.
  • Status: each new job starts in your default status. That’s Inward unless you changed it. See Statuses and stages.

You may run more than one business in your BytePhase account. Each job belongs to the business picked in the business switcher when you created it. The form shows Creating job for and the business name, so you can check before you save.

  • You can’t move a job to another business later.
  • The job sheet, invoice and other papers for that job always show that business’s name, logo, tax number and number series. This is true whichever business you have picked when you print.
  • Customers are shared by all your businesses. The same customer can have jobs in each one.

See Your account, businesses and branches to learn what each business keeps separate.
