I can't find a menu item or button
Find out why a menu item, page or button is missing or shows a padlock, and how to make it show up.
missing menu, menu item missing, feature missing, can't find, hidden, greyed out, locked, padlock, upgrade, access denied, no access, permission, turn on feature, more features, AMC missing, rentals missing, pickup and drop missing, tasks missing, expenses missing, commission missing, can't find menu, button missing, page missing, option not showing, where is it, not allowed, staff can't seeWhat you see: a menu item, page or button that a help article or a colleague mentions isn’t there. Or it shows a padlock.
A feature only shows up when everything lines up: who you are, your plan, whether the feature is turned on, what you’re allowed to do, and the business or device you’re using. Work down the fixes below. The first two solve most cases.
Try these fixes
Section titled “Try these fixes”1. Turn the feature on
Section titled “1. Turn the feature on”You can turn off features you don’t use, so the menu stays short. A turned-off feature is hidden completely. It has no padlock. Turning a feature off never deletes its data.
Outside India, these features start turned off in a new account: AMC, Rentals, Rental Devices, Pickup & Drop, Tasks, Expenses, Commission, Backup Drive, Collect Payments and UPI Link.
- Ask an admin to open Settings › App & account › Features.
- They click Edit, turn the feature on and save.
The page lists only the features your plan includes. Outside India, on Basic and above, the left menu also has a More features shortcut to the same page. See Turn a feature on or off.
2. Check that your plan includes it
Section titled “2. Check that your plan includes it”If your plan doesn’t include a feature, it still shows in the menu, with a padlock. Clicking or tapping it opens an upgrade message instead of the page. Customers who sign in to your customer portal never see locked features.
- Check which plan has the feature in Plans and what’s included or at bytephase.com/pricing.
- If you’re allowed to manage the subscription, you can upgrade straight from the upgrade message.
3. Ask your shop owner to let you use it
Section titled “3. Ask your shop owner to let you use it”What each employee can use comes from their role. On Standard and above, an admin can also change it for one person. If you’re not allowed to use a feature, its menu item is hidden, not locked.
You may also see only the records given to you. For example, if Job visibility is set to Only jobs assigned to this employee, you see only your own jobs.
- Ask an admin to open Employees and open your profile.
- They check the Permissions tab.
- On Lite and Basic, what you can do follows your role, so the admin changes your role instead.
4. Switch to the right business
Section titled “4. Switch to the right business”Jobs, invoices, sales, payments, stock and most other documents belong to one business. If you have more than one business, lists show only the records of the business picked in the switcher.
- Look at the business switcher at the top of the screen. On a phone, it is in the top bar.
- Switch to the business that created the record.
See Your account, businesses and branches.
5. Check your country, tax details or device
Section titled “5. Check your country, tax details or device”Some screens only appear in certain cases:
| Missing item | Why it’s missing | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| UPI & QR code, Shiprocket, Gupshup SMS | Only available in India | Nothing to change outside India |
| Tax settings, tax columns | Only shown when the business picked in the switcher is GST or tax registered | Check that business’s tax details. In India, you choose GST registration when you create the business, and you can’t change it later |
| Backup drives | Needs data recovery jobs: the Job service option must include recovery (Standard and above) | Change Job service option in the job settings |
| Notification templates | You can’t edit them on a phone | Open BytePhase on a computer |
| Tabs in the bottom bar on a phone | The bottom bar depends on your role | Look under More. See Getting around on your phone |
6. Sign in with your staff login
Section titled “6. Sign in with your staff login”Customers who sign in to your customer portal see only their own Home, Repairs, Quotes, Sales, AMC, Rentals, Pickups & drops and Self check-in. They never see staff screens.
- Sign out.
- Sign in again with your employee login.
Still not working?
Section titled “Still not working?”If you’ve tried everything above and the item is still missing, sign out and sign back in. Then contact support and send:
- the name of the menu item or page you expect, and where you’re looking for it
- whether you use a computer, the Android app, the iOS app or a phone browser
- your role (for example Admin or Technician) and the business picked in the switcher
- a screenshot of the menu or page
